Wabash wedding photographersa and a6 (5 of 5)copy A huge historic church burned down in Ft Wayne during my film years.  It was brick, with three story windows.  By the time I arrived downtown, the windows and their protection had been destroyed and what was left was smoke, steam and a brick carcas of an amazing structure.  (Can you see it in your mind's eye?  I still can all these years later.)  I stood on the sidewalk across the street and shot four rolls of 36 exposures, walking around that night, feeling sad, and in awe.  I KNEW that these photos would be incredible.  I KNEW I was lucky to have the equipment I did, to shoot this.  The next morning, I turned them in to my nearby pharmacy and waited.  This was before one hour photo labs.  I came back three days later, and asked for my prints.  It was like waiting for someone's wedding pictures... the anticipation...but better.  These were MINE.  I told the person my name, he hunted and hunted and searched, and called the manager.  They were gone.  They had the form I had signed when I turned them in.  The manager knew who I was because she had dealt with me often.  They apologized profusely, offered to give me new film, told me my next processing would be free.  None of it made any difference to me.  My photos were gone.  The art I was certain I had created on that sidewalk late that night, the history I had recorded.  Gone.  My heart was broken.

There have been a few times over the many years of working with clients that I have completely screwed up.  Once I fell in a pond with all my film.  Once my camera freaked and did not record to my cards as it should have.  Once my computer failed and everything on it was gone.  I spent over $1000 paying companies to try to recover my photos.  Nothing could be done.  I shot a wedding a few years ago, the night before I left an abusive relationship, and did such mediocre work that I gave back every cent I'd been paid, and lost a client I really loved.  Stuff happens.  Memories are burned into your mind, but sometimes never make it to photo paper.  It hurts.  It's devastating.  No one is immune to technical failures.

All that being said, as consumers we do what we can to ward against these situations.  I'm not sure why people are so surprised and contact me so often to tell me stories about their son's senior pictures, and how dark they were.  I cannot tell you how many times I have redone bridal portraits and formal portraits for brides and grooms, because the person they had hired to save money couldn't deal with the rain on their wedding day, and didn't have adequate lighting to shoot indoors.  (REALLY?!)  Enough can go wrong that we cannot control.  As a professional photographer, there is plenty I CAN and WILL control, because I have the right equipment.  I have extra of everything.  I have screwed up more than the beginners who SAY they are pros have even photographed, up to now.

If you're going to spend any money at all on an artist to capture the most precious moments in your life, do your homework.  INVEST in your memories.  If you think that's an un-necessary stretch, ask your friends to use their IPhones.  That may go just as well!

Wabash Wedding Photography and New Beginnings https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2016/2/wabash-wedding-photography-and-new-beginnings As I wait for the hundreds of flowers I planted last year to emerge from the ground, I am sitting with my coffee cup, thinking about new beginnings.

As a part of my new life, I came to a new town with my family.  I really like this smaller town, and the people here have been wonderful to us.  I thought that the transition would naturally carry here from Fort Wayne, and my success in business would follow me here.  It's been trickier than I thought.  While I drive to Fort Wayne all the time for weddings and portraits, working within a few miles of my home has been slower to come.  That hasn't been a real problem though, since it has allowed me the time to nest, plant to aforementioned massive flower beds, and begin making friends here in town with some amazing people.  I've also had time to begin another little side business buying and selling vintage jewelry and stuff.

Today I contacted the formal wear shops here in Wabash.  I'm posting fabulous work on my facebook page every day.  The phone is ringing with brides and their moms because 'tis the season for that to begin.

I'm ready to take Wabash, Marion, Peru and the world by storm again.  I've had my little respite.  Now I'm ready to get back at it like the photo animal I am!  BRING IT!

Why Hire a Professional? REBLOG https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2014/2/why-hire-a-professional-reblog How to Save Big Money by Not Hiring a Professional Wedding Photographer

Do you REALLY need to spend thousands on a pro? I don't think so.

pennypincher

What if I told that you could get wedding photos at a fraction of the cost that professionals will charge you, would you be interested in that? I bet you would because there are a heck of a lot of people out there that think wedding photographers are way too expensive, charging you thousands of dollars just for a few pictures.

Now, I’m not proposing that you have your guest snap shots with their iPhones. I’m also not going to propose that you wear a hat with a GoPro attached to it. With my plan, you will use the same equipment, the same software and the same techniques that the pros use to get you those super fancy wedding photos you see people posting on Facebook and Pinterest.

My plan will show you how to do everything the pros do so that you can save your precious money and spend it on something more valuable like his and her diamond-encrusted wedding cake toppers.

Everyone wants to look beautiful in their wedding day photos, but do you really need to spend thousands on a photographer?

savewedding1

Introduction: The average professional wedding photographer is going to charge you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Now, as you know, the average wedding photographer is going to charge you big bucks for taking a few pictures. If you’re like most people, you’ll probably end up paying about $2,500 for a professional photographer. Now, of course, they will have an average of about 5 to 10 years experience and probably have shot scores of weddings, but come on, thousands of dollars for a few pictures?

I’m going to show you how to do it for a fraction of the cost they will charge you. You’ll save so much money you can buy those customized monogramed M&M’s with each of your initials that will look beautiful on the cake table.

Wedding Photographers like this guy will charge you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars just for pictures. You’ll notice many photographers wear shades to avoid direct eye contact with you when discussing their rates.

savewedding2

Step 1: Rent the same cameras and lenses the pros use (Estimated Cost — $1,170)

If you want the same result you’re going to want to use the same top notch equipment the pros use. Most people know that the secret to awesome photos is the camera. So let’s go right to the source and avoid the silly middle man and save some big time money. There are places like LensRentals.com andBorrowLenses.com where you can go and get wedding rental packages that the pro’s use. These places are awesome by the way, I use them all the time.

Since professionals usually have at least two photographers at an event, I am going to recommend that you get two packages. You’ll need two lens bodies and two multiple lens packages and strobes. My recommendation is to get those packages for at least a week because you’re going to need to train your recruits (newbies right off the street) to use those fancy cameras the right way.

I added it up for you and you can basically get two Canon 5D’s and wedding lens packages each for about $1,169. That includes the insurance, mind you. If someone drops the camera in the fountains of chocolate, you don’t want to be on the hook for the $3,000 or more to replace the camera.

As you ponder all your savings, let your mind wander to the possibility of hiring Celine Dion to fly in and personally sing your wedding dance song for you because that could happen with all the money you are pocketing at the moment.

Rent the Canon 5D. These cameras seemingly produce extraordinary photographs on their own.

savewedding3

Step 2: Rent your tripods, soft boxes and memory cards (Estimated Cost — $250)

Now, it’s a bit annoying but let’s not forget some of the accessories that you’re going to need to pull it off. You’ll need two soft boxes to diffuse the light to get that “Wedding Look”. Also, you’ll need some stands to hold the lights, a couple of tripods and of course memory cards.

I priced it out and we are still doing great. For about $250 you can get all these necessary extras to complete your package. *cha ching!* — ring up the savings. Is it too late to call the hotel and upgrade to the Deluxe Seafood Towers as appetizers for the guest instead of those little mushroom caps filled with spinach?

You are going to need some soft boxes to get that “Wedding Look” with your photos.

savewedding4

Step 3: Recruit two friends or starving college students to snap the photos for you (Estimated Cost — $320)

Now that you have the best cameras, which will practically shoot award-winning photos on their own, you can recruit people to do the shooting for you. My recommendation is to recruit two semi-distant friends who are not already guests and who won’t be offended that you didn’t invite them in the first place.

If that’s not possible you can always recruit some starving college students willing to work on the cheap. When I was in college someone actually paid me to lay down a cement driveway for them and I had no experience in that, so why the heck not. The driveway had a real rustic and uneven appeal to it I must say, but the best thing of all is they saved money!

For about $20 an hour my guess is that you can get two newbie photographers for about eight hours or even the entire day. That’s only $320! Thinking about how wedding photographers charge thousands really chaps my hide when I realize how much can be saved.

Modern fancy cameras have made photography so easy that photographers are essentially like robots clicking buttons for you.

savewedding5

Step 4: You’re going to need a couple of books and video tutorials (Estimated Cost — $200)

Now the fancy equipment you’re using is going to require some basic working knowledge of the camera itself. I would budget in about $200 to cover the cost of some photography books, video tutorials and to pay the recruited photographers for their time to learn the camera equipment.

You don’t want your photographers not knowing the absolute basics of photography before entrusting them with the most important day of your life right?

As you are perusing your photography books don’t be surprised if you find yourself Google searching the possibility of having the entire wedding party carried into the ceremony by a parade of Arabian Horses and Belly Dancers. You’ll need to spend all the money you’re saving on photography somewhere else and that sounds like it could make for some interesting photos actually.

You’re gonna want a book like this at least a few days before you get married to study up.

savewedding6

Step 5: Shoot away, tell the photographer to go nuts (Estimated Cost — FREE)

This is the best part. All the photos that you want to take on your wedding day are free. So instruct the photographers you have recruited to go ballistic. Machine gun blast photos everywhere of everyone. Get right in front of the altar if necessary and shoot at 9 fps to get each and every nuance.

Now professional photographers are going to know exactly when and where to shoot and how to do it with minimal intrusion on the ceremony or guests, but that’s just not feasible here. So I’m going to recommend the shock and awe strategy of having your photographers machine gun shoot as many shots as possible.

Instruct your photographer to be aggressive and absolutely everywhere at once for the best results. If they are not conspicuously shooting everywhere at 9 frames per second, they are probably missing something important.

savewedding7

Step 6: Photoshop those pictures! (Estimated Cost — $200)

Thank God for Adobe Creative Cloud. Now instead of spending thousands on Photoshop tools that the photographers use, you can subscribe to a monthly service and get it for about $100 for a couple of months while you work on your pictures.

Now, you’re going to want to get some tutorials and books to help you learn how to use Photoshop so make sure you budget that in there too. Bottom line, however, is that your Photoshop costs in total are going to be a steal at around $200 for everything.

Since Photoshop is extremely tricky, I am going to recommend that you spend at least 40 hours learning the basics of cropping, layers, filters, plugins, masks, dodging, burning, vignetting, selective blur, overlays, lens correction, sharpening and smoothing. These are just the basics, however, and we can’t expect you to reach pro level. After all, many of those professional wedding photographers probably have several thousand hours experience working with Photoshop and associated tools.

They also probably have at least $1,000 worth of additional Photoshop plug-ins to make your pictures look beautiful. But remember, the objective here is saving money! And we are!

With Photoshop you’ll be creating glamorized wedding shots that make the bride look amazing, just like this actually.

savewedding8

Step 7: You’re going to need to store and share the pictures. (Estimated Cost — $60 first year)

You are nearly there and you are saving money! Now you are going to want to use a site that will allow you store those photos so that you can share them with friends and family. You will probably have thousands and thousands of pictures to store.

Storing them is cheap though. You can use a site like SmugMug and get a full year of beautiful photo sharing for only about $60.

Step 8: Get your prints (Estimated Cost — $200)

Since most professional photographers are going to give you a couple of hundred prints with their packages, you’ll want to budget in about $200 to get 200 high quality 5 by 7 photos from the event.

You can even go to WalMart and get super cheap budget prints and that will only cost you about $120. There are tons of ways to save money on wedding photos! By now you’re probably wondering why you didn’t plate your wedding cake in edible gold with the money you saved on photos.

Conclusion: You Just saved a boatload of money. You’re welcome.

You can thank me later for saving you a ton of money. If you followed my instructions, you just managed to shoot your wedding for a mere fraction of what it would have cost you with a professional. With my program, which gets you using the same incredible equipment and tools the pro’s use, you can save yourself an incredible $100. That’s a whopping 4% savings for you, Mr. DIY guy/gal.

savewedding9

Now, granted, you did have to spend close to 100 hours of your time renting, learning and editing, but that has got to be worth all the money you saved. If you saved $100 and spend 100 hours additional time that means that you just earned an incredible $1 an hour for every hour you spent. Now, that has to feel good. Let me know how this works out for you.

Love and Marriage, Love and Marriage, They go together like a horse and carriage.... Yeah? ...not always.  Love is hard!  (Can I get an amen?)  fort wayne wedding family photographers

If you have had the diamond, and the wedding, and the honeymoon, good for you!  Some people have never been afforded those luxuries, and really, that is so far from what love is all about.  Love is between couples, girlfriends, siblings, co-workers, military on the front line.... Anyone who has spent a Valentine's Day beside a hospital bed, cleaning up kid barf, choosing to forgive someone after a horrible disagreement, or accepting that there is no money for one rose, let alone a dozen...  They are more familiar with love.  Those who have eaten macaroni and cheese with their significant other for the second night in a row, who have assured them that everything will be okay when the worst thing in life has just happened, who have sat and listened to a crying rant knowing full well that this person means very little of what is coming out their mouth....THEY are more familiar with love. I want to celebrate THAT love.fort wayne wedding family photographers

You don't have to be married to enter this contest.  You don't even have to be the contestant.  What you DO have to do is send me a photo of these people you are entering, way back when, when their relationship was new.  If you don't have a scanner, take a photo of that photo (NO FLASH PLEASE) and send it from your phone.  You can text it, email it, send it through facebook, or right here from the CONTACT US form.

How it will play out:

Gorgeous Photography at a Fair Price / Fort Wayne Wedding Photographers https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2013/2/gorgeous-photography-at-a-fair-price-/-fort-wayne-wedding-photographers

"What a Girl Wants ~ What a Girl Needs" ... I've been thinking of those lines a lot lately.  Not only for my client, but for me - a girl in business.

fort wayne wedding photographerscollage3
When I started out, I was shooting film, doing weddings and family stuff for free for my friends and family, sometimes screwing them up pretty badly while I learned.  As I went along, other people began to ask me to do their weddings and portraits.  People I didn't know, but who had seen my work on the friends' walls.  I decided then not to do this for free.  As the years have gone by, I've charged more as I got better and better.  I won some awards, been published in some magazines, and upgraded equipment a few times, and charged even more.  I felt proud of myself.  I have come a long way.

In the last few years I decided on a paradigm shift.  I didn't want to be just any photographer, I thought.  I wanted to be a full service photographer, offering the most amazing albums, mounted prints... heck recently I decided I'd include a coordinator for every wedding I booked.  I felt good about this.  I wanted to pamper my brides with services, and all the products they saw on The Knot, and all the cool bridal television shows.

Unfortunately, while I had this dream of becoming a boutique wedding photographer, a couple of wars lingered on, gas prices sky rocketed, so food priced soared, and property values plummeted.  The people I so wanted to hire me were struggling, or at the very least, hanging on tight to the dollars they had.  Full service, high-end, luxury...?  Not such a great idea.  Sometimes the idea is fantastic, but the timing is all wrong.  Such has been the case for me and my brilliant business idea.

So new paradigm: Offer gorgeous photography at a fair price for my level of expertise, and what you might want additionally, you can pick and choose.  I will do what I do best, which is spend time finding out what you want most in your photos, and provide that.  As far as HOW you want them, i.e. prints, albums, canvas, save the dates, etc...you choose, and I will happily furnish them!

What I want most is to work with you, and produce gorgeous life markers for you that even your great grand children will enjoy, and take pride in.   The rest of my dream can wait a while, like everyone else's.

Wildly Romantic Wedding Photography...or Not / Fort Wayne Wedding Photographers https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2013/1/wildly-romantic-wedding-photography-or-not-/-fort-wayne-wedding-photographers When you open a bridal magazine or planning book, you see wildly romantic wedding photography, sometimes even mildly erotic bride and groom portraits. I love this, myself. Some of them are like 21st century versions of gothic romance covers.Fort Wayne Defiance Ohio wedding engagement photographers

You need to know a couple of things about these images, if this is what you want from your photographer. FIRST, a competent photographer feels excited and intrigued at the notion that this is what you want. They won’t wince, or draw back; they’ll lean forward and breathe a bit harder.Fremont Indiana wedding photographers The OTHER first, (because it IS NOT second) is that these photos take time. Not hours, usually (unless we’re driving to an historic location an hour from your reception venue) but time - away, without your best man yanking your chain because you’re showing your new wife some love, away - from your mother who is to my right saying “HONEY! SMILE!”, away - from Grandma, who wants to coo and have her bachelor son with too-much-camera-for-his-skill jump in front of me and say “Let me get one”. If it’s not an ornately staged production shot, but you still want something romantic, and less Ken and Barbie-ish than your sister's, you still need SOME time budgeted in your day!

Nazareth Hall wedding photographers If you want creative/unique work from your photographer, please discuss your timeline with the photographer more than once prior to the week before your wedding. Allow time. This can be worked out. A great way to do this is to take some time together BEFORE the wedding. STOP. DON’T LOOK AWAY NOW.Noblesville wedding photographers

Listen!

I personally love this, and consider it more romantic.  Let me tell you why! I urge the couple to choose a spot to see each other for the first time. I have the groom turn his back and have the bride approach. He turns and gets to see her FIRST, and review every detail of her, and she HIM. They get to say things to each other, compliment each other, soak each other in. The boutonnière is not crushed by the receiving line before she is alone with him. Her veil, hair and make-up are not wrinkled and wilted by hugs and perspiration. They are the first to see EACH OTHER, and in my experience, the stress bubble begins to deflate, and I see these two people begin to ENJOY their wedding day. They’ve seen each other (their best friend); they begin experiencing their day TOGETHER. The dynamics of that kind of wedding day are immensely different from the scenario where he paces and sweats, she fumbles and tears up constantly, and the tension is what gets documented the first part of the day.Bridal portrait wedding fort wayne indiana photographers Many times I have heard resistance to this idea, and the notion that “if he sees me before the wedding he won’t feel that rush of seeing me at the other end of the aisle, it won’t be the same, and it won’t be the way it’s supposed to be.” Remember folks, I have photographed LOTS of weddings now. I watch these people all day. The notion that he won’t look down the aisle and say to himself, “Here she comes. There she is. The girl I’m about to marry.” Believe me, the groom still wells up, the best man still pats him on the back, the bride still feels all the emotions she would have.  After all, she is STILL walking toward Prince Charming on her dad’s arm, she is STILL about to marry the man she loves, her life is still about to change forever, there are still all her friends standing up as she enters....and that walk is still a very special one!Fort Wayne Indiana Wedding photographer grand wayne Dave and andrea olsen wedding notre dame photographer photography So, to recap, creative portraits take time to photograph. Of course we can do it after the wedding and before the reception, while your mom is hissing “HONEY, the guests are waiting” or we can get them done before, and then you two sail out of the church, onto the party bus or limo, have some extra time with your friends on the way, and you get there before the hoers oeuvres are gone. If you're certain you'd rather not see one another beforehand, you can always put a delay between your ceremony and reception to get some fun shots with your wedding party, and then your new spouse. We can stop along the route to the reception, I’ll even ride in the limo if you’d like.  If you'd rather, when we’re all finished, I'll race you to the party, get detail shots of your table settings, your place cards, and your cake before there’s a crowd around it, and greet you as the DJ announces to your guests that you’ve arrived. Either way, if you plan it into your day, we get the photographs you've hoped for. The ones your girlfriends, sons and daughters will ooh and ahh over for generations. Either way, we get the documentary of your day. This is the only thing you have left after the gifts are put away and the gown is cleaned.

portraits fort wayne photographers Your preparation for what you want is just as important as mine, if you want more than the standard fare in your wedding album.  On the other end of the spectrum, if all you want is the standard fare, you DO NOT want one of those photographers that takes you away from your guests for hours before you get to the party. Check with other brides, talk to them, and don’t take their written word on the website for the final word. Was this person a commando who was rude to the guests? Did they have great ideas, or did they look to the wedding party for guidance? Did the contract they signed represent what REALLY happened? Did this bride get her pictures in a timely fashion? Were they what she had hoped for? If there were any problems or questions whatsoever, did the photographer handle them in a CAN-DO way with prompt responses, and solutions to her issues?

Celina Ohio wedding photographers So, to conclude...I don't want to be rude, but it’s true in some odd ways. Hiring a photographer is like buying a car. It can be pretty and shiny in their portfolio and their website, but they may be letting people down left and right, and if you don’t check, you’re stuck with a big clunker for the rest of your life.fort wayne angola indiana wedding photographers Suzanne Kattau-Kilcoin

Just gorgeous you (whatever your size), in the comfort of a place you feel safe, a beauty expert, other girlfriends (or not), and me ~~ Suzanne. The outcome? PROOF that you really ARE amazingly beautiful, and that you are bolder than you thought you could be! Then a boxed set of the proof, as a gift for someone else, or simply something for you to slip into a drawer and remind yourself that you do rock....just like you secretly thought you did.

Have questions? OF COURSE you do! Call.

This process ordinarily costs $500.00, and reaps a gift of 10 fine art 8x10s in a luxurious boxed set. This months' promotion (separate from this offer) adds a beautiful leather album to that! All you have to do is book your session this month for any future date!

Feeling Thankful / Fort Wayne Defiance Ohio Photographers https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/12/feeling-thankful-/-fort-wayne-defiance-ohio-photographers I've been pretty mad lately.  A pipe broke and I have had to remodel the whole back of my house.  My furnace nearly killed us in our sleep, and there are guys here right now, making this costly repair.  My husband works out-of-town, and I see him every six weeks or so.  A beloved pet died suddenly, and we had to bury him in the cold hard ground.  Someone has been walking around telling people she worked for me, when I'd never heard of her.

I turn on the news today and I see that lots of parents have lost their children and life partners, and I realize how lucky I am.

I have pipes to break while other people sleep beside dumpsters tonight.  I have a furnace to replace, and as much of a struggle as this is, I have the resources to pay to replace the one I have, while other people cannot pay for fuel, and are losing their homes.  My husband works, while other people's husbands have been laid to rest after war, or passed to the other side after horrible bouts with cancer, etc.  I have a company that someone thought was talented enough to want others to think she worked for it.  My child just stepped off the school bus, safe at her home again.

Tonight when I walk out into my yard and look up at the starry night, I will again say THANK YOU to the universe for what I do have.  During this holiday season, I hope that each one of you can find a way to do the same thing.

Right now I feel like the richest and luckiest woman on earth.

Mindi and Mark's Wedding Day / Nazareth Hall Wedding Photographer https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/9/mindi-and-marks-wedding-day-/-nazareth-hall-wedding-photographer Man, I'm getting behind in my blogging again.  So much shooting, so little time. This wedding day was damp, but still beautiful.  The gymnasium and Nazareth Hall Grand Rapids Ohio

Nazareth Hall in Grand Rapids Ohio sits on many acres of old trees and rolling hills.  The landscape is really beautiful, and so well established that it really lends to the historical feel of the venue.  In fact it is an old military school, with locker lined hallways, and big class rooms, along with restored dining halls and a refurbished gymnasium that now act as reception areas.  Of course we had hoped to use this landscape as a backdrop, but just before the wedding ceremony began, it was moved from the grotto to the lovely little chapel upstairs due to the pouring rain that had threatened to fall all day.Nazareth hall table setting

Mindi had planned this entire wedding from Tulsa Oklahoma where Mark and she live and work.Bridal portrait at Nazareth Hall

From the home-made cookies as favors, and the colorful candy bar for the guests, the entire event meant fun and family.  The dance floor stayed full, and the smiles were stuck hard and fast on everyone's faces all night.  The joy and mirth could not be drowned out by the downpour.

They will be moving back to Ohio soon, closer to family.  We wish them the very best of luck, and happiness forever and ever!

They responded to a promotion we had offered earlier this year trying to get into cool places where we had not previously worked.  I got to shoot their engagement and then made a movie poster for their wedding day in an old restored theater, The Philmore on Broadway.  The theme of their wedding was old movie love stories!  Charming and fun, and in such a cool place! The philmore on broadway wedding cake

Ean and Jessica are crazy about each other!  So much so that after the wedding, when it was time to kiss his bride, he didn't want to stop, and lunged forward to get another kiss before they were proclaimed husband and wife.  Their dinner was divine, flowers from Armstrongs were impeccable as always, and the day and night ran like clockwork thanks to a wedding planner we were so impressed with; Shawna at LaBella Eden, and her assistant Robin.Bride at the philmore on broadway wedding Groom at the philmore on broadway wedding the philmore on broadway wedding photographer The philmore on broadway wedding photographer fort wayne Dinner at the philmore on broadway Fort Wayne the philmore on broadway

When I met Jordan and Jeff, we had spoken many times, on the phone, thru text and email, we Facebooked, and then it was time for engagement photos. We went downtown with Abe, their son, a very long-legged wonderful black lab.

Fast forward to June 30, one of the hottest days this year and the day after the tornado that caused such harm to our area.  The wedding was in Fremont Indiana, at Old Mill Shoppes and Art Gallery.  It is an old village moved there by the owners, and it is a very special place!  There is not one inch that is not picturesque, but in keeping with its old fashioned decor, there is no air conditioning.  It did not faze our lovebirds, though.  There was very little room for all the friends and family, three videographers and the two of us, and it made the tiny building even hotter, but nonetheless, it was an amazingly gorgeous wedding, and the country details Jeff and Jordan put together were exquisite!Angola Fremont Indiana wedding photographer bride

The Loraine Wedding / Fort Wayne Indiana Wedding Event Photographer https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/7/The-Loraine-Wedding-/-Fort-Wayne-Indiana-Wedding-Event-Photographer

I’ve worked with Doug Loraine and Rachel Dennis Loraine for over a year, photographed their engagement, and facebooked, texted, emailed and called all the way through the planning of the wedding.  She was so worried and the week prior to the wedding, she barely slept, and needed a trip to the doctor.  She didn’t need to worry.  When you plan that far ahead, you really do have time to think of everything.

When it finally came, it was a blast!  The classic car, the cool personalized runner,  the sun glasses for everyone, the jello shots….it all went off without a hitch.  Colorful, and wonderful!  Congratulations guys, and thanks for trusting me as your photographer!

Jessica’s Senior Pictures! / Fort Wayne Indiana Photographer Photography https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/7/Jessica-s-Senior-Pictures-/-Fort-Wayne-Indiana-Photographer-Photography Share

Jess is the sister of a recent bride.  She’s into music, and fashion and is a delightful woman.  We met in downtown Fort Wayne, goofed around and then went to the mall.

I told her when I walked up, “You’re so beautiful!”   Her mother, (having raised two pretty girls) chimed in “She’s really talented, too.”  If you are raising a girl, you just smiled.  I know you did!

People ask me all the time if I am just a wedding photographer.  Heck no.  That may be all the majority of the population sees from me, but that’s just because so many people are involved in a wedding day.  I’m blessed to do professionally every type of photography I want to, and get paid for it!  I’m also blessed to have this angel’s face in my portfolio!

Thanks for asking me, Jessica!

Cassondra and Terry’s Big Fat Wedding Day! / Fort Wayne Indiana Wedding Event Photographer https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/6/Cassondra-and-Terry-s-Big-Fat-Wedding-Day-/-Fort-Wayne-Indiana-Wedding-Event-Photog

Cassondra booked me as soon as Terry asked. She had been a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding, and liked my style, and said I was easy to be around, and she wanted me. That was almost 2 years ago. it’s been wonderful getting to know her, and watch the progress she’s made on her wedding plans. She booked the vendors I told her did consistently phenomenal work. She hired a planner I recommended when her job got bigger and more stressful. She trusted me, and I appreciated it so much! She also lived out of town this entire time.

We shot their engagement photos in the church bowling alley and around Fort Wayne. We had a blast. I owed her a bridal portrai and with her crazy schedule, that ended up being TWO DAYS before their wedding. We managed it, I edited a few I LOVED, she chose one, I got it printed and it was framed on an easel beside their wedding cake. (WHHHHEW)

Working with these two has been so much fun from the first call, to the last moments by the trolley, and even NOW.  Friends for life, and some of the best photos we’ve taken up to now.  Congrats Mizes, and thank you for choosing us!

MOMS~~You Oughtta be in Pictures / Ft Wayne Family Photographer https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/5/MOMS-You-Oughtta-be-in-Pictures-/-Ft-Wayne-Family-Photographer ShareCarl Wu 61st Birthday 291

I posted to the facebook page of my girlfriend’s mom the other day, after I saw the notice that it was her birthday.  I told her I hoped she had the best day EVER.  I knew she’s been sick for a long time, and that it kept my sweet girlfriend extremely busy caring for her, and that her dad who was not a good bachelor while his wife was ill.  A few moments after I’d posted my salutation I got a private message that read “I’m sorry to inform you….”  Patty had died on her 7oth birthday.  She wouldn’t ever see my birthday message.

Fast forward to a few days later at my friend’s dining room table, looking for photos of her beloved mother.  It was a challenge!  The best photo we took to the mortuary was from the 50′s.  It was a beautifully lit, she was wearing white and looked like a movie star.

My dad took all the photos in my family and so there are many of my pretty young mom with all us sunburned kids, or in Easter hats, or around a birthday cake.  In my family it is I who take the pictures.  When people aim a camera at me, I say “NO!  That’s my job”.  I’m not in many photos, and in fact we have NEVER had a professional family portrait.

Moms, make sure you’re in photos.  No one cares if you weigh 50 lbs more than when you got married.  Nobody cares if you’re in curlers and a scarf.  Nobody cares if there are folded towels across the back of the couch.  SMILE.  Grab the nearest loved one and SMILE.

We moms don’t last forever.  We leave our children and grandchildren, and the photos of us when we’re gone mean even more.  It’s us.  It’s mom.  It’s their memory.  It’s their life on paper.  RELAX.

Mother's Day 2012

Mary called me a few weeks before her wedding after a sudden change in plans facilitated a pro photographer. She had done her homework about me and my product before ever calling, and she knew what she wanted. Mary is a girl who knows what she wants and I LOVE that quality.
Fast forward to me and my assistant walking into The Cathedral of St James in downtown South Bend, Indiana. Mary was so excited she had not slept, and so getting to know the real bride was a real challenge.
The church is a beautiful venue, as is The Woodward Room, where they hosted their party the following afternoon. The cake by Sugarush was INCREDIBLE–in fact one of the most beautiful I have ever photographed!south bend indiana mishawaka wedding photographerD4S_1064
There were so many unique elements she had planned that she wanted perfect, and even had a run thru of the grand entrance between the wedding and reception with the DJ (DJ Scotty B) and the wedding party!

Perfection is a lofty goal whose search generally can send even the most mellow of people into a frenzy. especially when dealing with lots of bodies, personalities and companies. Nonetheless, the day was gorgeous, Mary was a lovely bride, she married her prince charming ~~ ultimate goal ACHIEVED.south bend mishawaka indiana wedding event photographer south bend mishawaka chicago wedding photographerIMG_1732

Congratulations Mike and Mary.  Thank you South Bend for another wonderful time!

The Beauty of the Midwest in Spring / Fort Wayne Indiana Fine Art Photographer https://www.alleyesonyouphotos.com/blog/2012/4/The-Beauty-of-the-Midwest-in-Spring-/-Fort-Wayne-Indiana-Fine-Art-Photographer

Photography makes me so happy!

fort wayne indiana fine art photography photographerSNB_1427 It’s always so welcome when the green finally emerges from the ground, and soon after that color begins to pop.  It’s incredible really.  From nothing but a stick, first leaves form and then buds develop, and they become little tiny miracles of texture, hue and fragrance.

This is also one of those times when we’re reminded as gardeners, and as dwellers on earth, that nothing is a sure thing.  Take nothing for granted.  I write this on April 10th, the temperature at this moment is 33 degrees.   It’s a crap shoot whether tomorrow, any of my babies will still be there, or whether they have turned to mush in the night!  In the morning, the grass may sparkle with frost, and that will be beautiful too.  So for tonight, I share my photos of the season we’ve had so far.  Mild, fruitful and lovely.

fort wayne indiana fine art photography photographer2015CamilaTejada-0591

These are the type images I have cherished my cameras for, in the last 40 years.  Fine art images, they’re called now.

Before they were just called my life, and that’s what I call them still.  This is my life, and one of the things that makes me truly happy!

See you in the morning!

I’ve been working hard but not the way I thought I would be these days.  Things change.  What do we do?  We dust ourselves off and move on.

What I have been working at is getting my father a website he can be proud of, and one from which he can sell his beautiful things.  It’s vintage estate and costume jewelry, and he has LOTS of it!  He and his wife Sande collected it for years, going to auctions and estate sales, even occasionally meeting with someone who had it and called asking if they were interested in looking at it.  They sold it, sometimes at flea markets, sometimes out of a booth in an antique mall, and sometimes online in various places.

Their site until recently was more of a museum to educate the public on the different brands and makers.  After Sande’s sudden death, dad was at a loss.  He has rooms full of these lovely trinkets, and his business and life partner was suddenly gone.  A few weeks after that, I found myself at a loss, so we quickly made a plan to stay busy and keep moving forward.  I’ve done product photography before, and I really enjoy it, but not nearly as much as this.  Not only do I get to spend my days looking at pretty little sparkly things, but I also get to hang out with one of the coolest men on earth.  It’s been a real blessing and joy for us both!  (More proof for me that everything DOES happen for a reason.)

This is a subject I have been excited about for many years, and it’s been amusing to find out that my taste was pretty good.  I actually own some good named pieces, as well!  One of these days I’ll gather it together and show you!  (I’m NOT selling mine!)

To see more of this fabulous project, go see his new site here.

He also has cases in a local place,
